The main activity in the fight against crime is prevention. Crime prevention is a multilevel system of government and public actions aimed at eliminating, weakening or neutralizing the causes and circumstances of crime. Development of measures to prevent crime and individual crime is the end result and indicator of the effectiveness of all criminological research.
Specificity in the prevention of crime is that much of it is associated with coercion, involves interference in the private life of citizens, that is why such activities must be strictly regulated by law. This implies that in addition to the principles of social management (goal setting, systematic, objective, ground-level, efficient and effective) crime prevention must comply with legal principles, the most important among which is the principle of legality. (Sherman et al., 2002)
The first question considered in the paper is crime prevention in the USA, its goals and importance. In this regard it is necessary to consider special programs that are developed to combat and prevent crimes, their essential elements.
The second question under consideration is prevention of crimes committed by juveniles. Police authorities in most Western countries pay great attention to prevention of juvenile delinquency, which takes one of the main places in crime prevention activity. In this paper will be considered the activities of the police to prevent juvenile crime in the U.S., such as the program of social control over rising crime and juvenile delinquency prevention.
