Two benefits of integrating the police into the community that has established a successful relationship with law enforcement essay

There are many benefits of integrating the police into the community that has established a successful relationship with law enforcement. First of all, community policing can help to reduce psychological distance between the community members and the police officers (Kretzmann & McKnight 38). Secondly, integrating the police into the community can help to reduce disorder, fear and improve the quality of life. Thirdly, integrating the police into the community can help to promote “community integration and satisfaction” (Miller & Hess 123). In general, the community that has established a successful relationship with law enforcement can increase the security of its members, especially the most vulnerable groups: “women, children, the elderly and shopkeepers” (Miller & Hess 123).

There are some disadvantages of integrating the police into the community that has not established successful relationships with law enforcement. First of all, the police force will never be knowledgeable of public concerns because of the lack of public trust. Secondly, the police will not improve crime fighting capability because of the lack of public support. Thirdly, integrating the police into the community that has not established successful relationships with law enforcement can lead to the increased crime rate and public disorder (Miller & Hess 124).
